Google +1 snippet not supporting IE6 and IE7

I’ve been adding Google’s +1 to a number of sites recently and thought I’d better check the changes in numerous versions of IE. It appears fine in IE8 and 9 but not in IE6 and 7.

A quick check on Google’s Plus1 site and I found the list of supported browsers  which doesn’t include IE6 and 7. It says:

Google+ is supported in the following browsers:

  • Windows: Chrome, Firefox 3.6 and beyond, Internet Explorer 8 and beyond
  • Linux: Chrome, Firefox 3.6 and beyond
  • Mac: Chrome, Firefox 3.6 and beyond, Safari 4 and beyond

Well done Google on taking a stance against really old browsers!

Think of the +1 as the facebook equivalent of the “like” button. It allows users to recommend or endorse websites to other users or friends. You will see the term “inner circle” a lot because your friends will be able to see what you’ve recommended. Continue reading
