		<description>Simon - I completely agree.  As a marketer I get very frustrated at the vast majority of small business owners who don&#039;t use this valuable tool properly, with no thought as to the strategy they want to employ for it and a clear goal for what they want from it.

Actually - there are a lot of marketers that don&#039;t know how to use it properly either! ;o)

My advice to anyone would be to firstly be clear about your target audience, be clear about what you want your social media to do for you, and have a strategy in place that involves getting out consistent content on a regular basis.

Oh, and don&#039;t sell: social media should be seen as just one of a business&#039; many marketing methods (media) to drive interested potential customers into their marketing funnel.   What social media can do beautifully is build the relationships too, both automatically and personally.  Not many other media can do that for you.

Selling comes way down the line...and certainly not at &quot;tweet&quot;/status update stage!
