Usability Summary

I am constantly amazed at how poorly the majority of web sites are designed. The visitor should be able to enter and page and almost immediately know where they need to go to get the information they want. My designs are built around the visitor so they can get to the information they need in the shortest journey possible.

Usability does not mean boring or dull. What it means is making sure the visitor can find what they need by placing the content they want in exactly the place where they expect it to be.

How do you work out the success of a design?

A bounce rate is a term used when a visitor enters your page but then hits the back button. This is usually because they either didn't like what they saw or couldn't find what they wanted. The average bounce rate is 50% to 70%. My bounce rates average 25% but I have successfully managed bounce rates below 10% on a number of sites. If you want a cheap site where over half of your visitors and sales will leave after a few seconds then good luck to you. If you want a site where sales can double and your visitor is happy then we should talk!
