Voluntary Work I have been a Special Constable for the Devon & Cornwall Police since 1994. Before I joined I had been the victim of crime many times and was sick of saying something should be done and decided to help in any way I could. I was going to apply for Victim Support but before I could the Police accepted me. The biggest satisfaction for me is helping the victims of crime. Quite often I would spend hours with a victim which is something the regular Police just don't have time to do but I didn't have that restriction placed on me. The Special Constabulary has the exact same powers as the Police and we use and wear the same equipment. The only difference is we have full time jobs so only work part time. I have learnt many skills since I joined and take a lot of pride in calming down situations that in most cases would have resulted in using CS gas or force. Communication skills are vital to the job and also the ability to see things all the way through. To sum up it is the single most satisfying thing I have ever done. Hobbies I enjoy playing Squash although don't have much time for it at the moment. I also enjoy playing snooker and pool and used to be in leagues for pool. I have a dog so walking him is something I do often and I'm lucky to live by the sea so walks along the coast and marina is a nice way of taking my dog out. |
