My name is Simon Day and I'm 34 years old. I've been using computers since the ZX Spectrum came out in the mid 80's. My main three livings are running an internet cafe, a web design company and a mail order company. I do these repairs because I have the knowledge stemming from eight years of running the network of computers in the Internet Cafe.

I charge what I think is fair which is why so much of my business is word of mouth. I hate shops whose answer to everything is "Re-install windows". This causes the customer a huge inconvenience because they will have to back up all their work, install all their programmes again afterwards and then set up all their email accounts etc.It can take hours to get it back how it was (it takes me 9 hours because I make a living and have a huge amount of files and programmes to install). If I spend two hours on a machine and it's so bad a re-install is the only way I only charge for the re-install. You shouldn't have to be inconvenienced with a re-install and I try my hardest to stop that happening. I don't know any other business that does what I do. If you shop around I bet you every single one will say they need to re-install windows. Give it a go, you'll be amazed!

Because this isn't my main living it means I don't have to charge the full shop rates. Most of the people I visit pay me more than I charge because they think I haven't charged enough. This is absolutely true!
The first hour is set in stone but any time over that and I tend to charge what I would want to pay if someone had come to look at my machine.

Only when a machine is really bad will I have to take it back to my shop. As I sit here typing this I have a machine ready for collection which had 68 viruses on it and 12 of them I had to manually remove because the viruses were so new no virus checkers knew about them. Most shops deal only in hardware. Because I've spent so many years looking after the day-to-day running of PC's I have a knowledge of windows not found in most places.

I'm honest, hardworking and you will never ever feel you've been overcharged!
