Dixons chain – A rename to “Got no Stock” would be better.
The Dixons chain certainly had some problems today.
It started off with me needing a GPS PDA or worst case an adapter for one I’m already trying out but don’t like much.. I tried Curry’s first and they had no pocket PC’s at all and no adapters. I then headed down to Dixon’s in town. On approaching their store a man outside pleaded with me to read the leaflet he had in his hand before I went in there, more on this later. Dixon’s didn’t have anything either.
So neither the out of town superstore Curry’s nor town centre Dixon’s had PDA’s or adapters. Their websites have around a dozen for sale but they don’t actually stock anything in their stores. No skin off my back. Cost me a couple of pounds in petrol but they didn’t get the cash I was going to use to buy a really nice NAV system for my car.
While I was checking online I noticed that Curry’s had a NAV system on their site for £579.99 and yet PC World (same company remember) is selling the same thing for £249.97. That is a staggering difference in price. Just how many people could have saved half the price simple by stepping into a different shop? Mind blowing!
Anyway. As a last ditched effort I went into Staples to see if they had anything and lo-and-behold plenty of PDA's and adapters. The only thing missing was staff. 6 there but only one on counter so I had to wait 40 minutes to get served because the man 8 people in front of me was there about a refund. I don't know if Staples are also owned by Dixons but juding by their stock I wouldn't think so.
I know where my first stop will be from now on. I just need to gamble that next time 5 staff will realise the people waiting to buy have gone past 12 and maybe they should prehaps open one or three of their other tills to speed things up.
Ok, back to this man…..
So he handed me a leaflet and as I walked into Dixon's I could see the managers asking if he’s still out there and looking rather annoyed. I just had to read it in the shop :) This is it word for word. If the owner of this leaflet wants the credit please get in touch with me.

“I AM TOTALLY DISSATISFIED WITH DIXONS BECAUSE…
When I ordered a laptop five working days were wasted in waiting for a delivery that never turned up. Each day I was promised it would arrive but the delivery company lost the order and no one bothered to tell me.
It is impossible to talk to anyone who can do anything about it. Telephone staff have no power and regularly kept me on hold for 20+ minutes, or hang up on me. They still have my money.
Dixons have had the order for over 2 weeks, yet no one has even bothered to telephone or email me about their mistake. When I telephone them they promise to call me back and then never do so.
Basically, Dixons are very helpful until they get your money. Then their after sales services dries up. They promised to deliver the laptop yesterday evening. Still nothing… Many people have similar stories.
The Computer Shop in Market Street is probably cheaper. An ink refill for my printer costs £17.99 in Dixons but £2.93 there.
For your information Dixons Group also own Currys, PC World and The Link. They recently announced a massive 5% share dividend payment. This is partly funded by cheating on guarantees or insurance and overcharging consumers”

I had to show this because it’s the kind of thing I would do with large chains who forget to care about the little people anymore. Good on him for standing up to them. It certainly got the managers and staff rattled if nothing else.
So to sum up this poor chap will never shop at Dixon's again because of their really bad customer service and I won't be shopping there again because this is the third time in a row I've been to Dixon's AND Curry's and they haven't had what I wanted in stock.

I went fishing for a couple of hours on Sunday to get some fresh air. I decided to go to Babbacombe pier and shortly after I got there Babbacombe pier filled with hundreds of mackerel on the surface in a feeding frenzy as the sprats got herded into Babbacombe's small bay. I have witnessed mackerel shoals before but never on this scale. Within a few minutes I had enough mackerel to fill my freezer for the winter ahead. It was impossible to catch anything else and even my bottom rigs were pulling in mackerel as they fought for space in the shallow waters.
I had a really nice meal with Marie on the evening we got had the baby scan. We sat outside the Berry Head Hotel and watched the sun go down as we looked out across the bay watching the trawlers coming home from sea. It was really nice!
The tackle shop I use to buy all gear had a bad fire recently and I never knew how bad it was until I came across This page on their site about the fire. What a mess!
