I've decided I hate fishing now :)

It was my birthday on monday and one of my pressies was a new new pair of waterproof, super grip walking boots for my treks over rocks and cliffs to get to my fishing spots. So anyway, the weather forcast for last night wasn't good so I thought what better time to try out the boots than on a yucky day. So I took my floatation suit and new boots and headed off to Brixham Breakwater.

After 30 minutes of float fishing with no bites I thought I'd try something new. I removed the weight and replaced the missing weight with two hooks. One with a mackerel fillet and the other a whole squid. I threw it out to sea and watched to see if anything would happen...

"BAM" float goes under faster than I've seen before and line starts shooting off my reel. After spending 20 minutes fighting this thing I get a conger to the shoreline. As I lean down to lift it out the water it dives down once more but this time up against the rocks which frays and snap my line.

Totally gutted :(

The only good thing about last night was the boots were 100% waterproof. After sitting through two really heavy down pours and half a dozen smaller ones when it came to getting out of the flotation suit and boots at the end of the fishing session I was as dry as a bone. nice.
