Well today has been a very good day. At 11am this morning I was once again mobile after I collected my car. Also my fishing nightlight was delivered after I ordered it from Marsh Tackle. I have to say the service by them was outstanding. I order it late tuesday night and it was here Friday morning all charged up and ready to go. First class service!!
I went fishing this afternoon to try out a few rigs I'd seen on the net. Outcome was I need serious help setting up rigs :-) All mine finish up twisted together. I ended up using my trusted swivel, hook, weight, hook method which had a lot of bites but no fishes. I was planning to stay until around 10pm but a storm cloud at 8pm looked so bad that I called it night and got a chinese take-away instead. Annoying thing was the storm cloud missed us grrrrr hehehe.

Oh My God! It's gone midnight and I'm still hard at work, the things I do to try and get a bit of fishing in the next day :)
Terry signed my guestbook so at least I know local people know about the site as well :)
I emailed the Herald express weeks ago saying it would be a good article to run about this site because grockles..erm.. I mean tourists ;-) can take a piece of Torbay back with them on their computers. They thought it was a great idea and then I heard nothing else from them :-(
I'm hopefully getting a new car tomorrow and my new fishing night light so that is pretty sweet. I also had offical comfirmation this evening that my resignation from the Special Constabulary has been accepted. Nine years is a long time of ones life to devote to volunteer work but I did find it very rewarding and I throughly enjoyed every duty. I think I'll write a page one day about all the things I've seen in my time but the ones that spring straight to mind are:
Attended 2 murder scences
Sudden Deaths
2 stabbings
2x Firearms incidents
Countless Dawn Raids
Countless foot and car pursuits
Being surrounded by a large gang with baseball bats and broken bottles and being told by the pc I was with that he was authorising me to use any force (Very scary night and it was one of my first duties hehehe)
Also been threatened with a knives 5 times, baseball bats twice, a cricket bat, 2 contaminiated needles and a goldfish (don't ask!)
Thankfully I had always managed to talk my way out of every serious situation and being a smoker has probably saved my life on at least 3 occassions.
Pah, off to bed, need sleep.

The good thing about working for yourself is you can get up early, work early and leave early which is what I've done today. I headed down to Torquay Pier and did some float fishing. After a couple of hours I had netted a few mackerel so decided to try and see what was down on the sea bottom. I switched to a bottom rig and guess what I kept pulling in? yup, more mackerel :-)
My bottom rig worked great until 8pm when it all got tangled and by then it was too dark to try and re-do so I had to call it a night which annoyed me. Normally there are 4 lights on Torquay pier but tonight only 1 was working and there were already 2 people under it. To prevent this happening again I've ordered a Endurance Leisure Lamp from Marsh-tackle so I hope it arrives on Friday which I'm hoping is the next time I go fishing.
I was looking for a better rig setup and came across the Beach-Caster.Com build your own rigs page. I am going to try out the Double Runner and the Boom Paternoster next time I'm down there.

I finished my work quite early today and grabbed my new Freerunner Warbird fishing reel and headed down to Haldon pier in torquay to try a spot of float fishing.
I noticed a lot of kids shouting and yelling so I headed over to see what the fuss was all about. that's when I saw this conger eel. They reckon they caught it but it looks like its been dead a while. Still, I haven't seen a conger for a long time so it's nice to be reminded of one.
I had another good days fishing today and I really love my new fishing reel. Caught a couple of dozen Mackerel, most of which I threw back, a few pollock and what seemed like 4 million Garfish, god I hate those fish!!!
I'm now about to start work again (9.30pm and still going stong), I'll update again tomorrow.
Just a small update for now....
Doctor Who to return to TV - official. I'm not an avid fan but a lot of people are so if you are Click here to find out more.
Although Faulty towers wasn't filmed in Torquay the hotel they came up with the whole idea is located here and is under threat. Our local paper has more.

Well I did go off fishing again. I went back down to Haldon Pier, Torquay and set up my new Freerunner Warbird 6BB and setup to do some float fishing.
This afternoon was dead but this evening pulled in a large number of mackerel plus some Garfish grrrr. Ended up with 9 Mackerel which I kept, 3 Garfish which I threw back and half a dozen small pollock which I also threw back.
I thought that there wouldn't be anymore large Mackerel about but I was surprised to pull in a couple of 1 1/2 pounders tonight. I know that isn't big but compared to the Mackerel I've been pulling in the last few weeks it wasn't bad at all. It was also good timing because the Mackerel I had in the freezer got ruined because the freezer door wasn't shut properly so I've been able to restock.
I was also suprised how quiet it was on Torquay pier today. There couldn't have more than 6 fisherman this afternoon and no more than a dozen fisherman this evening. as I was leaving all the night time pro's were walking along the pier with their nets, stoves, half a ton of clothing. I want to learn night time fishing but I'm always too embarrased to ask for guidence. Because it's getting so dark so early now it's something I'll have to do soon.
Ok, I thought my 1 pound Garfish was big, Check this one out. Think I'll keep quiet now :-)
That's it for now. If anyone wants to help me learn night time fishing please get in touch, I'd love to learn!
I woke up this morning and stared at my computer and thought "No, I'm having a day off today". I took my dog out for a walk and then went to my local fishing shop and bought myself a Freerunner Warbird 411-50 reel. My old reel was over 10 years old and was squeaky and rusted. This new one is really nice!
I walked down to Torquay Pier and did a bit of float fishing. Ended up with 1 mackerel and 2 Garfish but one of those Garfish was the largest one I've ever caught there so I went away happy.
I've just had a bath and I'm going to see if I can go out fishing again for a bit. Hopefully I'll update later on.
