The Linny in Coffinswell; Moved too much with the times.....

Last night was a real mixture of feelings for me. I had planned to go out with Marie, my dad and Lyn for a meal at the Linny in Coffinswell a while ago. At the same time my Mum was going into hospital for tests on her heart. She spoke to me before she left for the hospital and I was going to cancel the night but she didn't know where about she would be and they would be running tests all night so I couldn't have been with her. I went ahead with the meal and just sat looking at my phone hoping for some news.

The Linny has changed so much. It used to be a real old country pub with a thatched roof, open logs fires and brass ornaments on all the wooden beams that stroon the place. To describe it now I would say it's exactly like a Brewery Faire pub. The old English atmosphere has been replaced with a modern style atmosphere . Gone are the brass ornaments. Gone are the two huge open log fires. One now has flowers and the other is run on gas (although it's never on).

It is such a shame that the cosy, snug and welcoming feel that the Linny gave me since 1987 has now been laid to rest. It is still a really nice place and the staff are as friendly as you're ever likely to meet. It just what made the Linny "the Linny" has been lost over time.

There was hardly anyone there while we were there and I wonder if it's been a change too far?

I used to love going there at Christmas time. The decorations were everywhere and as you opened the door the smell of a roaring open fire and people laughing would greet you. It was such a cosy and friendly place to be. It had "locals" like me coming from miles around and everyone talked to you. It was like you were a part of a family and everyone was welcome to join it.

Sadly there is nowhere left now that gives you that heart warming sense of contentment as you walk through the doors. I really miss the old owner and son and I really, really miss the Linny as it once was.

Time stops still for no old English pub I guess :(
